My favorite source for albums by decade & year. Built around collecting suggestions from a variety of published sources, books & magazines etc. Been static for the last five years and may, in fact, be dead since early this year. In any case a link to their '50s ranked LP list. One side note, they don't include comps (the Buddy Holly Story for example) though some slip though (Howlin' Wolf). http://www.acclaimedmusic.net/year/1950-59a.htm

It's as good as you can do for a consensus list and has all the attractions and drawbacks of a consensus list

Haven't heard that one! Some Cline configuration has a very good shot at a Top 60 of the Sixties that might come early next year.

Wonderful list. Most I’ve listened to and enjoyed. Looking forward to the others.

Another side benefit to embarking on listening to Andrew Hickey’s “500 songs” podcast that I know like 6 more artists here than I would have last month including the reference to the Benny Goodman concert! I’ve been really getting into Tharpe and Domino recently in particular.

I almost missed Tharpe because I had no conception of her as an albums artist at all! Good evidence for the "critics (e.g. me) are sexist" theory over the "women didn't get the chances" theory.
